Happy New Year!!   What an extraordinary and challenging year 2020 has been for all of us – it’s hard to believe that at the outset of this year, most of us had not even heard the word ‘coronavirus’, let alone considered how it would impact each and every one of us. Reflecting on the year; We would firstly like to say that our thoughts are with those of us who have lost loved ones or suffered hardship as a result of this unforgiving virus. Secondly, we would like to express our thanks to all Lifeboat Volunteers across the UK who sacrifice so much of their time and risk so much for us all every single day. Reminder: Lifejackets Are Useless Unless Worn You must have enough lifejackets onboard. This means having lifejackets to suit all shapes and sizes including children and pets. It is the skipper's responsibility to show the crew where lifejackets are stowed, how to don and secure them and when and how to operate them. The  FILB  recommends that when you use your tender and your boat everyone wears a buoyancy aid or a lifejacket. Remember, it is important to use crotch straps to prevent the lifejacket riding up upon entry into the water, ensuring your head is kept clear above the surface. Link to Lifejacket advice

Take care during Storm Bella

Image
Storm Bella is here! Just a reminder to take care along our coastline, especially with these high winds. We are hearing many reports of cliff falls all along our coast. Stay well back from the cliffs. We have created some guidance for everyone to share on our website. What to Expect: + Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible   +  Some roads and bridges may close +  Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage +  Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties + Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown fro m roofs, could happen Link to:  FILB Coastal Safety Advice
